Former Indian Space Research Organisation chairman A.S. Kiran Kumar delivered a stark message to young Indians on Wednesday: embrace rapidly evolving technology and artificial intelligence, or risk being left behind in the job market. Speaking at the inauguration of a new engineering college building in Hubballi, Karnataka, Kumar stressed that the pace of change in fields like AI, machine learning, and automation is unlike anything seen before.
"Technology is not waiting for anyone," Kumar told the gathering of students and faculty. He pointed out that routine tasks, even those requiring specialized degrees, are increasingly being handled by algorithms and smart systems. The former ISRO chief urged students to go beyond their textbooks and develop a mindset of continuous learning. He warned that clinging to old methods or resisting new tools would make graduates obsolete within a few years of leaving campus.
Kumar cited examples from the space sector itself, where satellite design, data analysis, and mission planning now rely heavily on AI. He encouraged young engineers to focus on problem-solving skills and adaptability rather than just memorizing formulas. The message was clear: the future belongs to those who can work alongside machines, not compete against them. The inauguration ceremony drew hundreds of students and local educators, all listening as Kumar painted a picture of a high-stakes, fast-moving world where standing still is not an option.
